America's Top 25 Live Venues
Number 17? St. Louis’ Off Broadway. I don’t have the broad experience to know whether it’s really one of the top venues in the nation1, but it is without a doubt my favorite venue in St. Louis2. Congrats guys.

My personal list would almost certainly contain Big Sur’s Henry Miller Library and Houston’s Orange Show. At one point I probably would have put Austin’s Back Yard on there but I don’t know how it’s holding up these days. Interestingly, all three are outdoor venues. Two venues I’ve really enjoyed but not sure how they hold up to repeated visits are the Mohawk in Austin and the Knitting Factory in New York. ↩

I won’t call it the worst venue in St. Louis, because I’m sure there are crappy venues that I never have any reason to go to—but my least favorite venue in St. Louis that I continue to patronize is the Pageant. Crowds are frequently obnoxious, the beer selection is borderline offensive, sound is frequently bad, tickets are expensive (and sold predominately through Ticket Master), and, due to their segregation of the under-21 crowd and alcohol, you can’t take beer onto the floor. So you have to choose between having a drink and being close to the band. ↩
