Inner Fidelity on full-size world-class headphones
Great writeup from Tyll on the current contenders for “best headphones in the world”. I’ve been fortunate enough to hear two. I briefly tried the Sennheiser HD800 in an audio shop, and it sounded great—although given the short audition, I don’t know how great.
Also, as part of my review of the HeadRoom Micro Amp and Micro DAC, I was lucky to get to borrow the Audeze LCD-2 for a little over six months. I’m still planning on writing up a longer piece on them, but, suffice it to say they were absolutely fantastic and produced some of the best sound I’d ever heard.
Anyway it’s nice to know that some of the best headphones in the article (LCD-2 included) are some of the least expensive. They’re still really expensive. But it seems that spending over $1000 is unlikely to guarantee you better headphones—just different ones.
